Three more PhDs for the TRADE team

Three TRADE staff members recently obtained their PhDs, bringing the total number of those holding a PhD within TRADE to 25 (both permanent staff and extraordinary appointments).

Dr Alicia Fourie (whose thesis topic was ‘A case study determining the economic literacy of introductory economics students in South Africa’) and Dr Carike Claassen (whose thesis topic was ‘The state of decoupling before and during the Great Recession’) both obtained their doctorates from the NWU. Dr Anmar Pretorius (whose thesis topic was ‘An empirical analysis of South Africa’s financial market integration with the world’) obtained her PhD from the University of Johannesburg.

Staff development is one of the cornerstones of TRADE’s (and indeed the NWU’s) operation as it contributes to a more dynamic working environment and advances the career prospects of the individuals concerned. This in turn translates into more enthusiastic teaching and more high-quality research outputs.
