Food for families

The School of Management Sciences in Mahikeng identified the need for food parcel consolidation which has been trending around South Africa during the heart of the nationwide lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The team compiled and distributed the parcels to two identified villages. The first area which was Majemantsho Village arranged through which Legae Child Care Centre identified 7 families who met the criteria of vulnerable orphans and needy people around the area and qualified for the food parcels.  The parcels were distributed with the assistance of the Director of the Redeemer’s Early Learning Centre.  The recipients expressed their gratitude towards the NWU and the Director and other stakeholders indicated that the linkages will only be strengthened henceforth as there is a common vision to assist the needy around Mahikeng.

The second distribution point was Moshawana Village.  The parcels were distributed with the assistance of one community member.  The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude towards the NWU.

Other initiatives in need of contributions:

Glass Soup Containers

Prof Pelser introduced an idea of placing different kinds of easy to cook non-perishable foodstuff (rice, soup, lentils and pink dahl) into bottles which is easy to cook and can feed a family for a day.  The committee used these gifts to thank the organisers of the day.  This initiative will be further discussed by Prof Pelser in the next CE committee meeting and updates will be submitted.

Request:

Please keep and fill glass containers with the mentioned non-perishable food items. Anna-Marie Pelser will make necessary arrangements with staff individually as to how to collect them from you as this is an ongoing project.

Used clothes (women, men and children)

Dr Klinck initiated the collection of used clothes and presented the idea to the committee.  The CE Committee had agreed to continue working in the community and indicated that they will still meet in another Zoom meeting to discuss when to distribute the clothes to the vulnerable beneficiaries.

Request:

Any staff member that still have used clothes and/or is interested to join is more than welcome to contact Dr Klinck in this regard.

Baby clothes

Some staff members have already purchased and contributed new baby clothes and the committee is still arranging with Bophelong Provincial Hospital to distribute the clothes to identified beneficiaries.  A date is still to be established for the distribution of these clothes to the babies.

Request:

Any staff member that still wish to submit baby clothes and/or is interested to join is more than welcome to contact Dr Klinck in this regard.
