NWU STUDENTS EMBARKING ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT THIS YEAR’S STUDENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK 2020

Student Entrepreneurship Week (SEW) 2020 in collaboration with the bhive Enterprise Development Centre and the School of Management Sciences, provided students with a route map to embark on their journey from student to successful entrepreneur. SEW is a national initiative to alert students to the fact that employment is not their only option for participation in the economy.  The primary objective of the initiative is to raise awareness of entrepreneurship in its different forms as an alternative to formal employment.

The week, held from 12 – 16 October 2020 consisted of two daily sessions of an hour each covering topics such as cultivating an entrepreneurial mind-set, how to start an online business, how to love networking and identifying business opportunities to name but a few. Students from all three campuses joined the daily zoom sessions and enjoyed the expert advice and practicality of the sessions.  The final day saw a panel discussion by industry experts and local entrepreneurs providing concrete tips to our students on how to create and launch a business venture.

The week was a great success, with positive feedback from the students who attended.  Our students would like to have more of these initiatives. We at the bhive EDC are ready to head the call and to ensure programmes and initiatives that promotes and cultivates an entrepreneurial mind-set amongst our students.
