SUPPORT TO AN OLD AGE HOME

On Saturday, 18 July 2020, our colleagues from the North-West University Potchefstroom campus from FEMS visited the SAVF Ons Hulde Old age home in Potchefstroom.

This initiative was as part of community engagement project at the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus). The purpose of this community engagement was the answer to the global call to action that each individual has the power to transform the world and make a positive impact. As well as to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

For our visit to the SAVF Ons Hulde, we adhered to the regulations issued in terms of section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Regulations) and the COVID-19 Direction on Health and Safety in the Workplace issued by the Department of Employment and Labour (Directive). Our colleagues had the privilege of donating essentials at the SAVF Ons Hulde reception.

Given that the greatest risk for COVID-19 is amongst the senior citizens, our colleagues could not meet and greet them. However, the primary purpose of this community engagement project was to extend a helping hand. Moreover, the purpose of the donations was to strengthen personal value, have a positive impact in society, model the importance of generosity; encouraging our friends and families to do the same and express love to our senior citizens at the same time

Ms. Stacy who is a line manager at the Ons Huld Old age home was very kind enough to give us access to the premises. Upon first contact, she was very professional and friendly. Our colleagues were welcomed with kindness and our donations were well received. Unquestionably, this was the best Mandela day ever.

A special thanks must be given to Dr B. Jonker who suggested that our school choose the SAVF Ons Hulde old age home as part of our #Mandela Day celebration. Also, a special should also be given to all the colleagues who donated in celebration of Mandela’s legacy.
