Background

Concepción Román holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and is a graduate in Mathematics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is Professor at the Applied Economic Analysis Department of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. She is the director of the Research Unit “Tourism and Transport” at the University Institute Tourism and Economic Sustainable Development (Tides). She has more than 18 years of professional experience in the field of transport economics in the areas of tourism and demand transport modelling, air transport and its regulation. Professsor Román has participated as expert and consultant in some projects of the European Union (EU) and other international top-level institutions. She was the president of the XIV Panamerican Conference held in Las Palmas. She is co-author of 15 books and monographs; guest editor on some special issues of scholarly journals. She has authored or co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters since 1993 in the field of tourism and transport economics. In the last 20 years, she has given over 100 presentations at international conferences. She is currently a Visiting Professor around the world and has taught transport and tourism courses in Belgium, Portugal, Ecuador, Bolivia, Spain and Morocco.
