This makes her one of the youngest females in Africa to ever obtain a PhD at the age of 23. Musawenkosi’s (Musa’s) thesis focused on “The Management perspectives on a talent value proposition for academic staff in a South African Higher Education Institution”. Prof Nico Schutte from the Faculty of Commerce and Administration on the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus received a prestigious award for best PhD and research publication in human resource management. The award was presented by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) at a function held at Vodaworld in Johannesburg on 27 July 2016. Prof Nicolene Barkhuizen from the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) was announced second runner-up in held Women in Science Awards in 2015. Prof Barkhuizen is a full professor at the Faculty of Commerce and Administration and was the second runner-up in the category Human and Social Sciences. Prof. Nicolene Barkhuizen, was among the 49 finalists who had been accepted to go through the judging phase of the DHL Rising Star Awards. The finals took place on 15 August 2013 at Monte Casino in Johannesburg. Though she did not clinch the award, Prof Barkhuizen together with four other finalists, was vying for the title in the category of Public and Private Services of which there were ten.
