Over several years, TREES has established itself as a leading tourism research entity that is contributing to alleviating the scarce skills in tourism research in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa (through post-graduate studies), as well as growing the field of knowledge through published research. Three programmes have been identified to form the primary pillars of research, namely economic, social and environmental.

We pride ourselves as being one of the leading tourism research entities in terms of publications and strive to publish relevant and timely research addressing industry-specific challenges in high ranking accredited national and international journals. As a team, we published almost 400 peer-reviewed articles in both national and international journals and delivered presentations at more than 350 conferences.
