Special Academic Appointments at NWU: Overview
North-West University (NWU) makes provision for various special academic appointments to enhance its scholarly profile, promote internationalisation and support its strategic goals in teaching, research and innovation. These appointments are typically non-remunerated, but they do receive research funds in ccordance with their scholarly outputs. These distinguished individuals contribute meaningfully to the academic environment of the University.
There are six special appointment categories, with the School of Management Sciences having special appointments in three of the categories.
Extraordinary Professors
Extraordinary Professors are eminent scholars, often affiliated with other institutions, who are appointed to contribute to NWU’s academic programmes. Their contributions may include research collaboration, postgraduate supervision, curriculum input, public lectures, and co-publication. Appointments are typically for a renewable term of three years and are based on academic merit, research standing and potential for meaningful engagement with NWU faculties.
