Your Path to Excellence
The tourism team at NWU is at the forefront of tourism training in South Africa. We stay ahead of new developments through regular industry contact, research projects, and consultations, ensuring our students do too. Our BCom Tourism Management programmes equip you with the skills to manage a tourism enterprise and understand the importance of tourism in South Africa's growing economy. You will learn how to develop and manage your own or another tourism business, contributing to the country's development.
Benefit from the expertise of hotel owners, conference managers, and event managers who regularly share their knowledge and skills with our students. Site visits to their businesses offer hands-on learning experiences. This practical exposure, combined with economic insights, prepares you to grow the tourism industry in South Africa.
After completion of the three-year programme, you will be able to manage a tourism enterprise. Still, you will also understand the importance of tourism in the growing economy of South Africa, and you will be able to develop it to the benefit of the country. We focus on developing your skills and knowledge to create and manage your own or another tourism business. You will, among others, learn to:
- develop and manage your accommodation establishment;
- develop, market and manage events;
- optimise nature as a tourism attraction; and
- Understand the tourism economy and how it contributes to growth in South Africa.
To ensure a range of employment opportunities, choose between Economics OR International Trade modules that will expand your knowledge and skills over three years. We also boast that several hotel owners, conference coordinators, and event managers regularly share their expertise with our students, welcoming us to visit their establishments. As a result, you will engage directly with industry professionals and gain valuable economic insights that can be applied to help grow South Africa's tourism sector.
