Chartered Accountancy

Overview

This is one of the University’s flagship programmes, which is accredited with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). South African Chartered Accountants (CAs(SA)) are leaders in business and in high demand, both locally and internationally.

 Typical tasks include:

  • Audit accounts and express your opinion on the fairness of financial statements
  • Advise clients on taxation matters
  • Advise clients about business matters, such as profit improvement, investment strategies, risk management, estate planning, etc.
  • Be your own boss by establishing and managing your business of choice
  • Lecture at a university or provide training to the accountancy profession

  • APS: 32
  • Mathematics: Level 5 (60%)
  • Language of study on campus of application level 4 (50-59%)

BCom  in Chartered Accountancy -Extended programme

  • APS: 28
  • Mathematics: Level 3 (40%)
  • English: Level 4 (50%)

Career opportunities 

CA is an exceptionally diverse and dynamic qualification, with several career opportunities. There are many options, e.g. public practice (auditing firms), corporate environment (work for a company), public sector (work for the government), your own business or in academia. Although there are many other options, most of our graduates go to work for the so-called ‘Big 4’ firms, being Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PWC.
