WTO-TRADE roundtables on Global Value Chains bring together government, business and academia
During 2015, the TRADE research entity convened two roundtables on the theme of Global Value Chains (GVCs) as part of the WTO Chairs Programme (outreach component). The first WTO-TRADE roundtable, which took place in March 2015, focused on South Africa’s policy response to the GVC phenomenon and the implications for the country’s export and economic growth. In the second WTO-TRADE roundtable held in June 2015, much of the debate centred on the need for trade facilitation to take centre stage if South Africa and other African countries are to grow their GVC presence and capacity.
